The closer we get to the holidays the more we end up sitting and getting in less movement. I want to challenge you to a November 10,000 daily step challenge! 10,000 steps a day is roughly equal to 5miles. I know, I know, it seems like a large feat but hear me out!
Why does getting in so many steps a day matter?
Gets you off your booty!
You're mindful of getting in activity daily.
The American Heart Association recommends that adults get 150-300 min. of activity a week.
You're not sitting on the couch chomping on snacks with your body in motion.
Now that you're moving, you're creating an active lifestyle!
Exercise strengthens your heart and improves your circulation. The increased blood flow raises the oxygen levels in your body. This helps lower your risk of heart diseases such as high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, and heart attack. Regular exercise can also lower your blood pressure and triglyceride levels.
Improves your mood and your mental well-being.
You build endurance to be able to tackle other fun things in life.
Stimulates your brain, keeps you young as you age.
Improves your sleep.
So how do we get to 10,000 steps a day??
Start with a morning ritual of leg lifts while drying your hair/brushing your teeth/etc...
Walk up and down your stairs. If you have one level, make a path and walk around your house putting stuff away.
While washing the dishes, do calf raises.
Park further away from your job.
Stroll a little longer in your favorite store.
Take your dog for a walk.
Take a 30min. daily walk, or two 15 min. walks in the morning and evening.
Dance in your living room.
If you work at a desk, get up every 30 minutes and walk around the office.
Clean your house, this requires a lot of movement.
